A Twisted Gap in Time

She tripped over a wrinkle in the liquid realm of sleep

And fell through the whirlwind within her mind’s eye.

She landed hard in a carnival of a twisted gap in time

Where the sure fantasy of her naïve adolescent life’s view

Bled to the raw horror of a deadly untamed reality.

For in this world the Dragons breathed their death breath of fire

So that where forests once stood tall in their immaculate majesty

Now stretched nothing but a barren land of ash, a crimson molten pyre.

The air swirled to leave a dank dark dust that drowned out the light of day

While hot embers raked the air like rain that fell to burn beneath her feet.

From all around her wild whispers rose to red ragged screams

That tore through the silken sound of her silent night of dreams.

The Earth moved this morning.

It was a single tiny tremor

Lasting only for a few moments,

But just the same

I felt the ground give way

Deep beneath my feet.

I come to sit

            In the Sacred Circle.

In solitude

            I seek, I meditate,

I explore my Soul

            To eradicate

The structures within

            That seek to restrict

The path set before me.

In my mind’s eye I wander

       Through the past

Of vast wastelands

       To seek the old bones

That feel smooth to the touch,

       Yet, are solid as stone.

Though bleached white with time,

       They send shadowed reflection,

Like faint ripples that shimmer

       To seem silver in sand.

I set to the task

            To gather together

Each piece important

            To the whole.

I lay them bare before me

            Building from the beginning

To complete the circle,

            To restore the old life

To regain the new.

            For in the continuing circle

There is no end.

For a time, you will be on your own

But there is nothing for you to fear,

You are never completely alone;

You need only call my name

For I am always here.

In the dark of night,

When your demons try to roam,

And you need to see a light;

You need only call my name

For I am always there.

When the road before you stretches far,

To make your dreams seem out of reach;

It does not matter where you are,

You need only call my name

For I am always everywhere.

Solitary Reasoning

In the course of life we wander among others,

Through mists of memory we grapple with ghosts,

That haunt the edges of demands for decisions

To embody other’s goals that crush our own hopes.

While we leap through hoops of unstable circles,

And clutch for strings of uncertain dreams,

That fabricates nothing but pathetic ruses;

As promises made, converge into schemes.

Yet left to ourselves to sort through our thoughts

We clear our minds to contemplate our own lives

To find we’re much more than a chance cast of lots,

And we finally discover that our own Spirit thrives.

Deer Tracks

On a walk in the woods,

 In the early morning mist,

I stopped to rest

Beneath a thin white birch.

I heard her approach,

Moving slow to the clearing.

Her hooves touched lightly

Yet solid on frozen ground

She stopped at once

Her head held high,

Searching my presence

Statue frozen, staring, still.

Her eyes met mine.

I did not move.

There was no sound

Save the song of birds.

In that moment,

We seemed connected.

For I felt her courage,

And I knew her power.

 Then she turned away,

Her head bent low.

She walked into the woods.

And the moment was gone.

Winter’s Snow

Sometimes it comes in silence

Drifting slowly like single,

White feathers floating on air

That vanish to liquid

Upon touching ground.

Sometimes it comes in turbulence

Swirling in swarms

To create white walls

That blinds our view and

Builds to drifts that block our path.

Once settled, the world brightens

For in its whiteness it is unequaled,

Only surviving within the sharp,

Biting frost of winter air.

It’s only voice comes as a crunch

Beneath our boot-clad feet;

Yet it brings cries of joy from youthful play

As we slip and slide along its surface

And mold it amid our hands to shapes

Sparked within our enchanted dreams.

A Single Morning

With Earth’s soft rotation

The song of Dawn

Splits the silence of night.

As light fractures dark

From a gradient crescent

Of the Sun’s rise on the horizon.

Rainbow hues spread

To vanquish the Sky’s black void

And fades the Moon and the maps of Stars.

The sights and sounds of a single morning

Verges to visions and songs so vivid,

That the very Soul swells to overflow in unison.

And in this mystic momentum

Every atom ascends

To join in projecting the power of Creation.

Back to Earth

Stepping silent onto the forest’s floor, beneath my naked feet

Our Mother Earth arouses my senses to immerse my Being.

Her calming colors of somber browns, and greens, and golds,

Meld together to enfold me in Her arms of solace.

Her fragrance is heavy, pungent, and moist with a decadent musk

That is saturate with new life springing from old death.

As I listen, my hearing is acute to a harmonious song

And I am surrounded by the swell of Nature’s music.

While high above me, a lilting breeze strums the leaves of trees

To join the melodic ripples of a gently flowing stream

That plays the underscore to a menagerie of birds calling in chorus.

And as every living thing ignites in motion and voice to sing

My breath and heart unite and give rhythm to this endless song.

I am overcome as Mother Earth’s purity begins to flow within me

And slowly seeps to light the ancient flame of the Creator’s Spirit

That forever resides deep within the confines of my Soul.
